Tirupathi Laddu

Friday, May 8th, 2009

The famous prasadam of Lord Venkateswara from Tirupati is made from besan, sugar, oil, ghee, dry fruits, and cardamom. Around an estimated 1.5 lakh laddus are made everyday as prasadam. This is one of the most sought prasadams and is unique in taste and texture. In fact the TTD (Thirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam) has applied for its Geographical indication mark or the GI mark, as the laddu is famous through out the world. This has been granted. The making of this laddu has a history of 300 years. There are designated hereditary priests or acharakas who are authorized to enter this special purified temple kitchen called ‘potu’ to make this prasadam.
