Immune System for Tumors

Friday, July 10th, 2009

A very important role played by the immune system is its capability of identifying and eliminating tumors. The antigens of the transformed cells that belong to the tumors are usually not found in ordinary cells which the immune system is unable to recognize, thereby attacking them with the notion that is a foreign cell, though some immune systems are antigen specific. Sometimes these tumors elude the immune system and such tumors which are usually benign go on to become malignant and cancerous. Tolerance to immunity against tumor antigens help the tumors as the immune system does not attack the tumors then.
